Korean Air, is the largest airline and flag carrier of South Korea. Its global headquarters are located in Seoul. Korean Air's international passenger division and related subsidiary cargo division together serve 130 cities in 45 countries, while its domestic division serves 20 destinations.
It is among the top 20 airlines in the world in terms of passengers carried, and is also top ranked in international freight carrying. [1] Incheon International Airport serves as Korean Air's international hub. Korean Air also maintains a satellite headquarters campus at Incheon.
Korean Air's main global headquarters campus and its Global Operations Center are located in Gonghang-dong, Gangseo-gu in Seoul.[2] Korean Air also maintains a domestic office campus at Gimpo International Airport in Seoul. Korean Air's lesser domestic hubs are based at Jeju International Airport, Jeju and Gimhae International Airport, Busan.[3] The maintenance facilities are located in Gimhae International Airport.
Korean Air currently transports an average of more than 20 million passengers per year. Since 2004, Korean Air has been the world leader in the international cargo transport sector.
This advancement of Korean Air would not have been achievable without the support and encouragement of our customers. In return, Korean Air has been steadily implementing a sustainable management mindset and increasing its activities that give back to our society.
In terms of environmental management, Korean Air announced an environmental management philosophy in the 1990s. Since then, we have been advocating green management through programs such as overseas reforestation projects that not only prevent desertification but also help reduce greenhouse gases. Meanwhile, our environmental-friendly aircraft help reduce fuel consumption and noise pollution, and we are using energy most efficiently.
As for social contributions, we proudly sponsor a Korean language tour service in the world’s finest museums including the Louvre in Paris, the British Museum in London, and the State Hermitage Museum in Russia. We also use the advantage we have as an airline to take part in humanitarian aid activities for domestic and overseas natural disasters. Recently, we have taken a leading role in helping Pyeongchang make the bid as the host city for 2018 Winter Olympics.
The current growing concerns, global warming and greenhouse gases, are global issues wielding ever-greater influence on all sectors of society including politics, economics, and culture. Therefore, it is crucial to adopt and advance programs and systems that address those concerns.
Korean Air will make the utmost effort in setting practical guidelines so that promising a healthier environment is not merely a slogan. We will help establish compelling environmental campaigns so that all of our employees may protect the environment at work as well as in their everyday life.
All of us must show concern for the future of the earth, respect common values, and make every effort to prosper together as members of a global society in order to pass on a clean environment to the next generations. Korean Air is committed to being a company that is sound and transparent, values the environment, and shares with those less fortunate.
In 2009, Korean Air was rated as the best airline in Asia for the third straight year, having the best business class on routes to Asia for the fourth consecutive year and the best advertising campaign in the business for the second year in a row by Business Traveler Magazine.[4] Korean Air is currently North America's largest airline to Asia.[5] Its main rival is Asiana Airlines, another South Korean carrier.
